Adverse weather

As with all schools in Aberdeenshire we make every effort to keep school operating as normal, but on some occasions circumstances may arise which will lead to closures, for example adverse weather or power failures. In such events we will let you know details as soon as possible. In any decisions taken the safety and welfare of both pupils and staff will always be paramount. We shall keep in touch by telephone, text messaging, local radio and Aberdeenshire Council website.

Head Teachers decide if and when schools should close due to bad weather or another emergency. In bad weather they will decide this after receiving information about local weather conditions. This decision can be made during any time, day or night. These guidelines outline the procedures for dealing with school closures during bad weather or other emergencies.

If children are at school and the weather deteriorates, parents are advised to keep vigilant of the Aberdeenshire School Closure website and if transport isn’t running, parents will be required to collect their child. Parents will also be contacted via text and/or phonecall.

If the school is to close early, the school will contact you by telephone. If this is not possible the school will contact your named ‘emergency contact’. It is important contact details are current and the people named are available – particularly during bad weather.

If you are concerned about local weather conditions contact the school. You may wish to collect your child yourself and are free to do so provided you make arrangements with the school.

Before the start of the school day:
